Christian Sympathy
- Our Christian sympathy is with the family of William
Thomas Johnson who died on February 3, 2006.
Attention Presbyterian Women
- In the next few months as we Presbyterian Women continue
our Bible study of the liturgical calendar, we will turn our thoughts to the
season of Lent, Holy Week and Easter.
- Our study in February will focus on Lent, the time
between Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday. The season of Lent has become
synonymous with giving up something, the difficulty of denial, the challenge
of fasting.
- This year as Presbyterian Women may the motivation
behind our choice of Lenten disciplines be “What is it that brings us
closer to Christ?” Lent should not be seen as a “six-week only” deal,
but rather as a life altering commitment. The scripture passage for study in
February is Eccl. 3:6-b; Matthew 4:1-11.
- Please join us for one of our meetings.
~ Afternoon Circle meets Monday,

Elders & Deacons Retreat March 18th
- Elders and Deacons mark your calendar for a day retreat
at Camp Hopewell on Saturday, March 18th from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00
P.M. We will enjoy the fun challenge of some outdoor group building
activities in the morning, eat lunch, and do some planning for the future of
the church in the afternoon. Where will our church be in 10 years from now in
terms of membership, programs and outreach? How do we get from here to
there? These are the questions we will ask and seek to answer. The role of
deacons and elders in a church is not to “rule the church” but to conceive
Christ’s vision for our church and then work with the Holy Spirit to bring the
vision to life and that is what we will be doing on this retreat. All elders
and deacons are encouraged to plan their work and social calendars around this
day retreat on March 18th. Give this one day to your church!

What is “Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans”?
- “Kirk” is the Scottish word for “church.” Tartans, with
their distinctive plaids, represent specific Scottish clans, regions, or
regiments. The “Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans” is the presentation of a Scottish
Family’s symbol, its tartan, at church for a blessing.
- Beyond the particular heritage of Scotland and its
people, Batesville Presbyterian Church’s Kirkin’ is intended to encourage all
participants to reflect with thanksgiving, on their own family and ethnic
heritage, and to celebrate God’s grace poured out for all generations.
Confirmation Class March 1 – April 12

Christ? What is a Christian? What is the Presbyterian Church? How Do We
Worship God? What are My Spiritual Gifts?
- Students who complete the course may join the church
during worship on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006.
- The confirmation class this year will be offered to both
